Breast lift is an outpatient surgery with rapid recovery that restores breast shape and position, providing a more harmonious, beautiful, and youthful figure. A lift can be performed without implants when there is sufficient tissue. In some cases, lipotransfer can be added to slightly increase volume and correct minor asymmetries.
When there is insufficient volume and the patient desires larger breasts, implants can be added during the lift to achieve better proportion with the rest of the body.
Many factors affect breast tissue quality, including genetics, age, breast size and weight, pregnancies, weight changes, among others. Breast sagging occurs more often in women with large breasts, those who have had very large implants, post-bariatric patients, and women with previous pregnancies.
Very large breasts in relation to the rest of the body can cause neck, back, and waist pain, dermatologic problems, and affect a woman’s self-esteem. Large, heavy breasts can be uncomfortable for exercise, wearing certain clothes, and other activities.
Breast reduction improves a patient’s quality of life by literally removing weight from her. It also improves the shape and position of the breasts and lifts them. Large areolas are reduced to a more aesthetic size. It can alleviate many neck, back, and dermatologic problems secondary to large breasts. It is an outpatient procedure that does NOT require general anesthesia.
In many cases, breast sagging is due to poor tissue quality, so GalaFLEX™ mesh can be used. It is placed strategically during the lift to embrace the breast tissue and provide better structure and support. The GalaFLEX™ mesh gradually integrates naturally with the patient’s tissue and is absorbed over approximately 14 months, providing an internal support system 3–4 times stronger than native breast tissue. This essentially forms an internal bra that keeps the breast lifted for longer.
Breast reduction can be combined with techniques such as GalaFLEX™ mesh support to improve tissue quality and make the lift more durable by creating an internal bra. It can also be combined with implants in selected cases.
